Diane Wright

Reflexologist & Ayurvedic Practitioner

Diane Wright has been practising reflexology since 2004 — over twenty years of clinical work rooted, in her own words, in “physiology, warmth, and genuine care”. She studied Ayurveda in Kerala, India, and now runs clinics across South West Scotland, the Scottish Borders and Cumbria. Dumfries is one of them: Diane sees clients here at Salon31 on the last Thursday of every month.

Her treatments are deliberately quiet ones. Reflexology sessions are fully clothed, delivered in a calm, structured environment with minimal talking, and built around supporting nervous system regulation rather than filling the hour with conversation. Alongside her clinical practice, Diane is an IPHM-accredited spa educator who trains other therapists through her Regulation Reset™ methodology, and she is the author of The Soul Within.

New to it?

What is reflexology?

Reflexology is a complementary therapy in which structured pressure techniques are applied to reflex points, most commonly on the feet. You stay fully clothed throughout — for foot reflexology you'll simply take off your shoes and socks, settle back, and Diane works through the feet using set techniques.

What makes Diane's version distinctive is the environment she builds around it. Sessions are quiet and structured, with minimal talking, so that the hour is genuinely restful rather than sociable. The aim is to support the nervous system in settling; many people book it simply because they find it a rare chance to stop.

Facial reflexology applies the same principle to the face and head, drawing in marma point stimulation from the Ayurvedic tradition. Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD) is a more specialised technique focused on the lymphatic pathways.

The Ayurvedic Side

Ayurveda, studied at source

Ayurveda is a traditional system of wellbeing that originated in India. Diane studied it in Kerala — the region most closely associated with the classical Ayurvedic treatments — and brings that training into her practice alongside her reflexology work.

In practice that means treatments such as Shirodhara, where warm oil flows in a continuous stream across the forehead; Kizhi, using warm herbal compresses worked rhythmically over the body; and full body lymphatic massage. Marma points — the Ayurvedic equivalent of pressure points — also appear in her facial reflexology work, which is where the two halves of her practice meet most obviously.

Ayurvedic treatments are typically finished with aftercare guidance, so you leave with a sense of what to do with the rest of your day rather than being sent straight back into it.

Frequently asked questions

When is Diane at Salon31 in Dumfries?

Her Dumfries clinic runs at Salon 31, 31 Bank Street, on the last Thursday of every month. Dates are released through her online booking page.

Do I need to undress?

No. Standard reflexology and cranial therapy are fully clothed treatments — for foot reflexology you'll only need to remove your shoes and socks. The Ayurvedic bodywork treatments involve warm oil or compresses, so ask about those when you book if you'd like to know exactly what to expect.

How long is an appointment?

Standard reflexology comes in three lengths: 30 minutes for targeted or maintenance work, 60 minutes for ongoing support and recovery, and 90 minutes for deeper regulatory work. Lengths for the other treatments are shown on the booking page.

What does it cost?

Diane doesn't publish a price list, so we haven't reproduced one here. Prices appear when you select a treatment and time on her booking page, or you can call her on 07923 223 180 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Will fire cupping leave marks?

It may. Fire cupping involves cups applied to targeted areas with a sensation of suction and pressure, and temporary marks on the skin are a normal part of the treatment. Worth bearing in mind if you have an event coming up.

What actually happens in a session?

Diane works in a calm, structured way with minimal talking. That's intentional — the treatment is designed as a quiet hour rather than a chatty one, with the emphasis on supporting the nervous system to settle. Ayurvedic treatments are typically finished with aftercare guidance for the rest of your day.

Is this suitable if I have a health condition?

Reflexology and Ayurvedic treatments are complementary therapies. They are not a diagnosis and not a substitute for medical care. If you are pregnant, under treatment for a medical condition, or taking medication, mention it when you book so Diane can advise you — and please continue to follow your doctor's advice.

How do I get in touch with Diane directly?

Email hello@dianewrightreflexology.com — she says email is the fastest route and aims to reply within two working days. Phone enquiries are taken on 07923 223 180, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.
